Introduction

Hogbetsotso Za is a traditional and cultural festival celebrated by the people living in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region of Ghana. It was started far back in the 19s and later got a breakdown some twenty years back. This was due to a misunderstanding between the various royal families of the various communities in the area over who to succeed the Highest Throne after Togbui Asem the Paramount Chief kicked the bucket and made a journey to the land of the great ancestors. Four energetically young men from the various clans were selected to inherit the throne and none of them were approved due to chieftaincy disputes. This brought about some internal conflict and the festival were since then terminated.

After about 19 years since the termination of the festival, the youth of the society found it necessary to re-unite the conflicting clans and bring about peace with the main goal of re-starting the traditional and cultural festival that makes the community a real one. So through the tireless effort of some of the concerned youths of the Mafi society, the Hogbetsotso is re-born-ed and is now back on track. The first rebirth of the festival came on December last year and is expected to happen same month next year. The planning committee is looking forward to reach all Adidome citizens home and abroad to join hands in arms to make it better next year.
